“Exists no miracle mightier than this: to feel.”

~ e. e. Cummings ~

According to the CDC, roughly 1 in every 7 children experiences child abuse or neglect. Statistics for child abuse in the US has increased times 5 since the start of the pandemic in 2020, and this only accounts for abuse that is actually reported.

In 2020 alone, over 1,700 children succumbed to injuries at the hands of parents or adults in charge.

In many cases that I have researched over the years, the patterns continue to be the same. The red flags were always evident to the people around them, however, no one bothered to speak up.

If you see something, SAY SOMETHING.

“Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul.”

~ Dave Pelzer, A Child Called “It” ~

Below are lists of the podcasts, books, documentaries, and general resources that have crossed my path over the years I have spent researching the epidemic that is child abuse in America. These lists will continue to grow as I discover more along the way…

Listen

  • True Crime Daily with Ana Garcia – Ana’s podcast covers many of the smaller and lesser known cases of abuse and filicide
  • Vulnerable with Christy Carlson Romano – Growing up in the Disney limelight, Christy provides an eye opening lens to the lack of protections and support in place for kids in Hollywood
  • True Crime and Cocktails – for a lighter side of difficult stories, cousins Christy Oxborrow and Lauren Ash take extremely well researched deep dives into many different types of cases across the crime spectrum, inclusive of crimes against our most vulnerable

Telling your story is not always easy. I am thankful to those of you who have reached out to entrust me with yours. If you suspect child abuse, it is YOUR JOB to report it. Connect with your available, State specific reporting options or utilize one of the national options from the Child Welfare Information Gateway or the Childhelp National Hotline.
